You might be asking, “Is roof cleaning safe?” At Kerb Appeal we safely and carefully clean your roof with no damage to tiles or membrane. You’re probably thinking, “Why should I clean my roof? Does it extend the life of my roof? Does moss damage my roof tile?” Cleaning and sealing your roof tile does extend its life. Moss and growth are damaging the tile, it can cause moisture to build, expansion and cracks and eventually water ingress.
Your next question might be, “Should I seal my roof tiles?” This is an optional extra final step that we highly recommend as this really protects from the regrowth of moss and mould. We use a breathable tile sealer that allows water to bead off, the tile to still breathe and not trap moisture and it acts a repellent to dirt build up.

We operate in Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside, Durham and Northumberland.
What equipment do you use?
We use the best cleaning professional cleaning equipment on the market that allows us to adjust pressure, nozzle and application - cleaning without damaging. We bring our own access equipment which we’ll discuss with you during the quoting process.
Does the pressure wash damage roof the tile?
We are very careful to get the pressure just right, so we don’t damage any tiles. We also fully check all the tiles before we begin and let you know of any cracked or broken tiles that need to be replaced before we begin; we also check again at the end of the clean.
Is the Roof Makeover a messy process?
Jet washing, removing ridge and verge can create a bit of mess. Good news is we do everything we can to minimise any mess and we clean up everything before we leave.
Do I need to be home when you do the work? Do you need access to anything?
We only need access to an outside tap. Our equipment is battery powered or powered by a generator. You do not need to be home when we do the work, so long as we can easily access the areas that we need to work on.
What if I share a roof in a terrace or a semi-detached?
We’ll let your neighbours know we will be doing work and we will create a clear line between yours and your neighbours roofs. Of course if your neighbour would also like to have the same process, we can do everyone’s whilst we are there.
What products do you use?
If we use any products, we often don’t, we use Kerb Appeal Clear Green. This is a very effective microbiological biocide that quickly breaks down and kills organic growth such as moss, lichen and mould, commonly found on driveway surfaces and roofs. It also offers a lasting prevention against regrowth. We use ProPerla Sealing & Protecting products, they are the best in the market.
Are the products safe for pets and children?
The Kerb Appeal Clear Green would not be considered safe to touch whilst still wet, like most weed and organic growth removal products. It does not contain bleach or acid. When dry it is completely safe, even if it rains.
If we are using this product on your roof we will spray this product closely and carefully on the roof only. We ask that you move hanging baskets and plants that could be affected by any small amount of overspray through the breeze. If we are rinsing this product, we will disconnect any water-butts during rinsing. Once dry it’s completely safe for pets to walk on, even if it rains.
Is there any on-going maintenance required?
The sealing products will give you longer protection against dirt and growth. The Gutter Guards if you choose to install them will offer protection from blocked gutters; great for roofs with overhanging trees. We recommend you keep up with organic re-growth on your roof to keep it looking great, protected and maintain thermal efficiency. A simple clean every other year will be enough. And we will do a full roof check whilst we are there, take pictures and show you any signs of repair required.
How much does an average Roof Makeover cost?
It depends on the size and scale of the job and what you want to achieve and what additional extras you’d like to include: Gutter Guards, Ridge and Verge replacement, any work on facias and soffits etc.
